Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce the publication of these revised Pharmacy Paediatric Critical Care Staffing standards, produced by the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacy Group (NPPG) in conjunction with the Chief Paediatric Pharmacists Group (CPPG).

This resource allows Trusts and Health Boards to assess the pharmacy staffing requirements for their local Paediatric Critical Care services, in order to provide appropriate support for the safe and effective use of medicines to this complex patient group. This includes staffing requirements needed to provide a 5 or 7 day service and promote a team based service approach including pharmacy technicians.

The standards also recognise the breadth the role that pharmacists working with  Paediatric Critical care services have, including support for transport teams, advancing technologies designed to support safer prescribing and administration including pump drug libraries and EPMA systems as well as research.

We hope that Trusts, Health Boards and external supporting organisations find these standards of use when reviewing pharmacy service requirements.
