Anna joined Cardiff and Vale University Health Board in 2003, where she completed her preregistration and Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, and covered a variety of adult and paediatric wards across the Health Board.

Anna has specialised in paediatrics for 6 years, and currently covers the Paediatric Critical Care Unit within the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales. Since 2011, Anna has been part of the team at the Welsh Medicines Information Centre which provides the NPPG Information Service. She took on the responsibility of leading and co-ordinating this service in 2016, and is an NPPG Committee member. Anna is also the committee link member for the NPPG Wales Regional Group.

The NPPG Information Service aims to keep NPPG members up-to-date with relevant information that is relevant to their practice. We collate comments and respond to consultations on behalf of NPPG from national and international organisations, e.g. NICE, EMA, DoH, NHSE. We act as the contact point for specialist advice on BNF for Children content and the paediatric Medusa IV guide monographs.

Anna was involved in the production of the UKMi Q&A on “How should medicines be dosed in children who are obese?” which is available via the SPS website; and co-authored Arthur S, Burgess A. How to identify and manage ‘problem’ excipients in medicines for children. Pharm J. 2017;299(7903): online. DOI: 10.1211/PJ.2017.20203121. Anna has also recently completed a level 4 Higher Apprenticeship in Leadership and Management and has progressed to the level 5 diplomas.

Aside from her role in paediatrics, Anna also leads to UK Porphyria Medicines Information Service which provides highly specialist advice on the use of medicines in the acute porphyrias to patients and healthcare professionals across the UK. Anna also manages the delivery of specialist MI services across Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. She has a particular interest in training and development and is currently involved in developing a new programme of training in problem solving and information handing for pre-registration pharmacists across Wales following the introduction of the multi-sector pre-registration year.
