Neonatal infusion position statement. – Minimising Inconsistent Drug Delivery via Continuous Intravenous Infusion in Neonates

Dear colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the latest position statement from the NPPG on minimising inconsistent drug delivery via continuous intravenous infusions in Neonates.

We know that drug delivery via continuous infusion can inconsistent if these are administered at low flow rates and if the height of the pump is adjusted relative to the patient, something predominantly affecting neonates more than bigger children. This is particularly important for some of the high risk drugs. This position statement provides background information and evidence on this as well as practical actionable advise on how to minimise this risk.

I hope you find this useful to inform your local practice and help optimise the care we give to patients.
