Oral liquid medicines are among the most commonly prescribed medicines for children, yet variation in the administration devices used to measure and deliver these medicines can lead to significant dosing inaccuracies and patient safety risks. In this new position statement, the Neonatal and Paediatric Pharmacists Group (NPPG), in collaboration with the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group, have for the first time set out evidence-based recommendations to support the selection and use of oral administration devices for children. The statement aims to promote safer, more consistent practice across healthcare settings while recognising the importance of patient, parent and carer preferences. We hope this guidance will support healthcare professionals in reducing medication errors and improving the safe administration of oral liquid medicines
